this is way too funny......I was reading his bio and, naturally, clicked on the photo ofh PT in a folding kayak... to the right of "At Syracuse University..." and couldn't believe my eyes....he's holding the paddle the wrong way!

The inward part of the curved blade should be facing the paddler.

You can't "blame" the photographer...PT has done beaucoup paddling..I'd love to hear an explanation re this.

Hi Sandy,

Isn't he pushing away from the bank with his paddle? Problems will start as soon as he starts paddling.

Cheers

I am not sure about the paddle direction thing, but Happy Isles got me into seakayaking! During the reading back in 92 I would rent a 17 foot fiberglass model and paddle it in the afternoons, and return to the book afterward in the warm summer evenings. (I was a student so I had time).
But as fortune would have it, I just returned from northeastern Australia and managed to visit several of the spots mentioned in the text. I was able to kayak and camp overnight on one of the islands off the coast from Cape Tribulation. The water was kind of murky, it was windy as all hell, I was warned about the crocs in the estuaries, but it turned out well and I recommend it to anyone in the area.
