I assume The Cold World will document travel in the Arctic Circle. Theroux mentioned this as a possible future book when promoting Dark Star Safari a couple years back. (I think he also said that he had conceived of a book chronicling an overland journey from Mali to Namibia.)
The publication date is two years from now-- does anyone know just when the travelling for The Cold World was/will be done? I'm assuming he's not spending a great deal of time in the dead of winter, so was it last year, or will it be this year? |

From what I understand, its not just about the Arctic Circle: its the northern latitudes, in general. One of his sons spends a lot of time in Greenland and Russia, etc, so maybe that has something to do with it?
I also understand that this was his second choice for a book. His first choice would have been a sequel of sorts to Dark Star Safari-- overland from Cape Town to Timbuctoo. That may still be forthcoming, when world travel becomes a little more easy for Americans? Just my two cents... |
