I've read several places, here and in an interview with Paul's son Marcel that PT is a control freak, and that he's got pushing power to for instance see to it that Germaine Greers comments about Blinding Light (I think) were removed from a site.
---
Is that the kind of guy PT is, and how does that add up to his very democratick and humanistic approach in books and articles? What is his network like and from where do you know that he has pushing power?
---
I'd be grateful if someone would elaborate on this. |

I would imagine that even the most democratic and humanistic of authors would wish to have as much control over his work as possible. Difficult to say if that translates into daily life, but sometimes people with strong personalities come across as controlling. I can't see him getting a review canned from a public venue, so I'd have to see some sources cited there.
It would be hard to extrapolate anyone's comments into "the kind of guy" he might be.
Judging from what I've read, I don't think Mr. Theroux tolerates fools very well.
I like that. Spoken pensively, as I might well be a fool, but from the great obscure distance of my status as reader, I feel somewhat safe in saying it. |
