The Wahooli Tribe

Hi there,

Just finished Fresh Air Fiend - superb read! I have a question about the 'Wahooli' tribe mentioned in the book by Paul . . . are they real?!?!?

Some of the rites, rituals and peoples described by the author in the chapter on . . . well, rites, rituals and peoples (I'm afraid I don't have the bbok to hand so can't give the name of the chapter) are so strange as to be unbelievable, almost works of fiction.

I've googled the wahooli and nothing has come up . . . can any other Paul Theroux fans out there shed some light or point me in the right direction for more information on this Wahooli tribe?

Or have I just been 'had' by a master of the tall-tale?
